A Meal a DayKnowing that hungry children can't learn, Marenn-Parenn has set a priority for the year to ensure that the 300 children in the immediate vicinity of Marenn Parenn's adopted school, La Colombe, have at least one meal a day-- more than most currently eat now. For $21, about the cost of a movie with refreshments, you can ensure that a child has one healthy meal a day for a month. Raise the RoofOr you could replace the roof on La Colombe, where every time it rains, school is either cancelled or the children miss part of the day's lesson because they need to participate in a bucket brigade to get water out of their classrooms. At a cost of $500, we're hoping to find one generous donor able to take this project on. Provide Clean WaterThe majority of the people in Petite Place Cazeau do not have water service (they live in makeshift housing, which does not allow for installation of pipes). The result: people don't have clean drinking water and rarely take baths, which leads to many diseases. Marenn-Parenn proposes to buy a piece of land and build a three-room house with structure to accommodate water service, to be used by the project's families. The new building will house Marenn-Parenn's office and an activity room where sewing class, art class, and small clinic can take place. (Marenn-Parenn is currently renting office and all-purpose space). The base of the house will have a reservoir to store water from rain to be used by the project's families for laundry. One time costs would be $25, 000, with ongoing expenses of $50 per month. Sponsor a ChildYou could become a Marenn or Parenn for one or more of the 92 children we have waiting for sponsors. As the name suggests, only the rare individual steps up to this level of support. While the yearly cost is only $300, we ask for a minimum two-year commitment. Marenn Parenn takes its commitments to its children very seriously, and we pride ourselves on never dropping anyone from the program once enrolled.
